PRACTICAL INFO

TRANSPORTS IN INDIA

India is normally a safe country but organizing a trip by your own might be a bit complicated, especially if you cannot spend a long period in the country: public transportation is not always available and it is nornally time-consuming, while renting a car for self-drive can be challenging.

The distances among the several places might seem relatively short but do not make the mistake of thinking that you will reach them in a fast manner: chaotic traffic jams, unpaved roads, every kind of vehicles (cars, many camion, overloaded scooter, tuktuk..) hurtling the road from any direction and animals (cows, elephant, camels…) that can cross unexpectedly will slow down your itinerary.. and you might need 5-6 hours to drive 200 km.

But this is also the beauty of a trip in India because it allows you to see the villages and the real India, beyond the wonderful forts and palaces.

For all the above reasons, we decided to take part to a group with a wonderful local guide (Marilda) and 2 drivers that organized every details of this magic travel!

CLIMATE

The period of December and January is a good moment to visit the North of India as the temperatures are pleasant during the day (in the morning and in the night is cold) and it rains rarely

VISA

Good to know: before visiting India you need and electronic Visa that can be obtained following a guided online procedure (cost approx 80 USD to be paid online with a credit card)

The online application is quite long as they request you lots of info but all in all it is not so difficult: you will be asked to submit info about you, your relatives, your work, the countries visited before, a photo in jpeg format, a copy of the first page of your passport and mandatory the name and address of your local tour operator/guide in India.

If you are unable to complete the e-visa application form as you do not have all the info requested, don’t’ worry you can save the application and return to complete the application form later on!

The e-E-visa is issued in few days if you submit correctly all the info. However, we suggest you to start the procedure at least 1-2 months before your departure in order to be sure to be able to collect timely all the info and avoid risks of delays

For updated info for Italians citizens check the Viaggare Sicuri official site before leaving

HOTELS

Indian standard accomodations tend to be not very high especially regarding cleanliness, so to avoid unpleasant surprises better to choose a medium-high category

EAT AND DRINK

Indian cuisine is very spicy: you will love or hate it!

The hygienic condition are not always good and a good suggestion against dysentery or illness from contaminated food/drink is always to only eat cooked food, avoid raw vegetables and peeled fruits, creams, and depending on the cooking conditions also some street food.

Last but not least only drink sealed water and drinks.

INFORMAZIONI PRATICHE

TRASPORTI

MANGIARE E BERE IN INDIA
